I think what is really necessary is a whole village approach. It should start off with what people can see is necessary and work from there to improve things. Both projects set out here make that assumption. The idea is that there is not a huge amount of funding except what can be supplied by the villagers. There is no assumption that the project will allow villagers to make an income from agriculture and pay to maintain equipment or supply inputs for the project. There are no cooperatives organized to acquire government funding and no attempt to get funding for irrigation or any other expensive machinery. The projects are both aimed at food security and assisting subsistence agriculture and improving its productivity. Commercial spin-offs from these projects are quite likely but the projects are not designed to produce such outcomes.
